PUTRAJAYA: Mykads being allegedly sold to Chinese nationals such as was reported in a daily today is false, said National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Datuk Sulaiman Keling.
In a statement here today, he said a check of NRD’s record revealed that information such as identity card number, photo and finger prints on the MyKad concerned did not exist in the NRD system.
He said NRD confirmed that all MyKad involved in the news report ‘RM1.3 juta Beli MyKad’ was false and was not issued by NRD.
All these are criminal offences that are framed under the NRD Act 1959 (Act 78) and Regulations, which carries a jail term of not less than three years or a fine of RM20,000 or both upon conviction, he said.
The news report had said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) raided a hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently and arrested three individuals who were processing new MyKads for a businessman of Chinese nationality.- BERNAMA
