KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of legendary and foremost entertainer Tan Sri P. Ramlee will be feted to 22 of his songs to be sung by 10 artistes from Malaysia and Singapore in a Musical Extravaganza concert on Friday jointly organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and MediaCorp.
RTM deputy director-general (strategic broadcasting) Datuk Adilah Shek Omar said P. Ramlee was an entertainment icon for the two countries and the choice of theme for the 10th edition of the show was a bridge for many communities.
“We see Tan Sri P. Ramlee as an entertainment icon who united Malaysia and Singapore, and is very suitable for the 10th edition celebrations and RTM’s 70th anniversary in April,” he told a press conference on the concert at Angkasapuri, here today. Also present was MediaCorp head Sabariah Ramilan.
Adilah said that besides entertaining the audience, the concert would also provide new artistes the chance to present P. Ramlee songs which are evergreen and still relevant to all.
To be hosted by Ungku Ismail from Malaysia and Nadiah M. Din from Singapore, the concert will feature known singers like Naseer Wahab, Siti Nordiana, Azlan The Typewriter, Hafiz Suip, Azhael, Farahdhiya and Datuk Mokhzani Ismail.
Singapore’s line-up will include singers like Taufik Batisah, Hariani Hassan Bakri, Sufi Rashid, Rosalina and Sezairi.
The two-hour show is scheduled to begin at 8.30pm and will be telecast live on RTM’s TV2 and Suria TV 12 in Singapore.- BERNAMA
