TAWAU: Four secondary schools here have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Negeri 1, Kota Tarakan, Indonesia for collaboration in education.
The MoU which was signed during a goodwill visit by Dinas Pendidikan Pemerintah Kota Tarakan and SMP Negeri 1, Kota Tarakan, Indonesia to the Tawau Education Department and several top schools here will include an exchange of students, information and cultural activities between the two countries.
The four schools selected were Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Balung, SMK Kuhara, Sekolah Menengah (SM) St Patrick and SM Tinggi Cina Tawau.
The goodwill visit began on Feb 22 and ended today, with 73 students and 11 chaperones.
It was led by Dinas Pendidikan Tarakan deputy head, Erwin Wello. In her speech, the group’s spokesman, Endah Sarastininhsi said the visit was not only to gain information on Malaysia’s education system but also strengthen ties between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Tawau education officer Darmansah Asakil said the programme would benefit students by exposing them to knowledge and experience.-BERNAMA
