KOTA KINABALU: A mother ‘lost’ her two daughters for a solid half hour after she left them unattended in her car with the engine running in front of a bank here today.
Kota Kinabalu City police chief ACP M.Chandra, in a statement, said in the 6.15 am incident, the woman had parked her car in front of the bank to make a quick cash withdrawal and left her daughters, aged eight and five, inside the unlocked vehicle with the engine still running.
“When she came out of the bank, she had the shock of her life when she found that the car and her daughters were no longer there. She lodged a police report about the incident at the Kota Kinabalu police station,” he said.
Chandra said an immediate search for the car was launched upon receiving the report.
“At 6.45 am, the car was found left at the parking area behind the 1Malaysia Clinic in Jalan Gaya with the girls inside it, safe and unhurt,” he said.
Chandra said initial investigation revealed that the suspect, in his 20s and wore a t-shirt and black short pant, had aimed at stealing the car and not at kidnapping the girls.
While saying that the case was being investigated, Chandra also advised the public not to leave their children unattended in a vehicle. – BERNAMA
