KOTA KINABALU: Trade and investments will be enhanced between Sabah and China with the establishment of the Consulate General office here this year.
The establishment of the office here in April is commendable said Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KKCCCI) president Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang as it can ensure that bilateral business will boom.
“Sabah is a strategic location and ideal for investment opportunities in agriculture, education, infrastructure and IT industry,” he said.
According to him, the establishment of the China consulate office here had been discussed several years ago after a proposal announced during China president Xi Jiping’s visit to Malaysia in 2013.
“I understand the consulate office will be providing services including visa renewal or applications, facilitating trade and economic among Sabah, Labuan and China. It will also facilitate the needs of China nationals working and visiting Sabah,” he said.
“The Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman had also called for the establishment of a consulate in Kota Kinabalu,” he said adding that there had been requests of the establishment of a China’s Bank to be set up in Sabah. Officials from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Bank of China had conducted feasibility studies in the State.- By Bosco Wong/Sayangsabah.
