KENINGAU: Up to 1,000 single mothers should be added as recipients of e-kasih.
Pensiangan Parliamentary Women and Family Development (MPWK), Zaiton Anik, said the matter must be given attention to ensure the single mothers in the district are able to support their family, especially their children.
“The number of single mothers in the area is increasing due to the passing of their husbands, divorces, and abandonment. It is difficult for them to be eligible for welfare support because they are not listed in e-kasih, which is the prerequisite in applying for any kind of help from the government,” she said in her speech for GST and Consumerism Seminar at Dewan Datuk Ellron Kg. Biah Tengah, here.
The seminar was officiated Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Ayid and attended by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin.
In this respect, the government has to re-evaluate its policy, to enable single mothers to apply and receive welfare support without going through the e-kasih system, ensuring that they enjoy government aid, she added.
She stressed that there are many single mothers in the area who do not receive any kind of government supports as they are not listed in e-kasih. – SayangSabah
