KOTA KINABALU: Illegals immigrants numbering 145 people was inspected during an operation launched at the squatters settlements in Kg. Cenderamata 2, Likas, and Kg. Kalansanan Lama, Inanam, last Saturday.
From the amount, 46 individuals including 22 children were arrested, believed to be illegals (PATI) after failing to provide valid travel documents.
“All the arrested have been brought to Karamunsing Police Station for documentation process before they are sent to Centralized Lock-up for further investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act,” said the District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra.
Three police officers and 185 personnel from various enforcement agencies were involved in the operation launched from 4.00am to 9.00am.
Twelve immigrants including one woman were also nabbed in the operation for being found drug positive after undergoing urine tests.
Suspects have been remanded for investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“The operation was carried out following the complaints and information regarding on criminal activities in Inanam and Kota Kinabalu areas,” he said. – SayangSabah
