KOTA KINABALU – Tourism is an experience of people and places and not mere display of sites and products.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said tourism players have to formulate new and interesting products such as a spin-off of other programmes.
Speaking during a meeting with the coordinator for the Rafflesia for Tourism among the Dusun Community Mediation Project, Nicky Cruz Matthiaz at his office, here today he said tried sites and sights can be promoted but it was always commendable to diversify.
On the project which involved three villages in Ranau; Kampung Poring, Kampung Kokob Baru and Kampung Kiau Taburi who wished to embark on tourism due to the availability of the Rafflesia flower there, he said the government will provide the necessary infrastructures to help this project.
“However, this programme should not be a burden. I believe there are another tourism attraction such as bird watching,” he said.
He also urged the community to apply for their tour guide licenses so that they can conduct their activities.
The communities also hoped to offer their own homestay facilities and programmes to potential visitors. – SayangSabah
