PUTATAN: Parents are urged to monitor their children’s activities in the social media.
Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Yahya Hussin, said school students are easily exposed to the social media which enable them to access and spread information to the public.
He also said that through the platform, all information and news regardless of their validity can be spread quickly and accessed via mobile phones.
“All these information must be filtered by parents, where they need to play their role in monitoring their children as to prevent them from being influenced by negative and fake news,” he said during officiating the SK Petagas Primary Six Graduation and Excellence Award at Pasir Putih Multipurpose Hall in Putatan.
However, he agreed that other information that are beneficial to education and learning can be found in social media.
“If students are smart in using social media for knowledge, it will surely help them in their learning process.
“That is why parents must be wise and always keep an eye on their children’ use of social media at home,” he stressed.
The Petagas Assemblyperson also commended the school’s students’ hardwork in getting a remarkable achievement in this year’s UPSR exam.
“Keep up with this performance, and success should not make us careless,” he added.
In the event Yahya presented the Academic Figure and Student of Excellence Award for UPSR 2015 to Nabil Johari, Co-Curriculum Figure Award to Sahrina Toni, and Nilam Award to Nur Atigah Fathirah Faizie.
Also present were the representative of Putatan Education Officer, Masdin Pumpunga, District Officer, OKK Haji Yunus Ismail, SK Petagas Headmaster, Awang Lai, and local community leaders. -SayangSabah
