LABUAN: The Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) foiled an attempt to smuggle in 328 boxes of alcoholic drinks and 40
cartons of cigarettes with an estimated value of RM321,141.98 off Lawas coast, Sarawak on Monday.
Its enforcement chief maritime captain Che Adnan Md Isa said the case was the biggest seizure so far this year.
“Our patrol unit was patrolling the waters of Labuan and near the coastline of Sarawak at about 8.20 pm and spotted a suspicious lorry parked near the bank of Merapok River, Lawas and found the contraband inside the truck,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.-BERNAMA
