TAWAU: The Tawau Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained seven Indonesian illegal immigrants during an operation conducted around the district’s waters yesterday.
Tawau MMEA enforcement chief Capt Anor Jaafar said the illegal immigrants, aged between four and 50, were detained at about 5.58 pm while travelling in a boat towards Sungai Nyamuk, Indonesia.
“Upon inspection we found three women and four men including a child were travelling without valid personal identification documents,” he said in a statement.
He said the suspects, allegedly attempting to sneak out of the country without valid travel documents, were taken to the Tawau MMEA jetty for further investigations. – BERNAMA
