BELURAN:-Many rural dwellers in the sub-district of Paitan still do not have the birth certificate or identity card.
As such, the Beluran member of parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee wanted the National Registration Department (NRD) to take a long-term measure to resolve the problem.
“The high transport cost to go to the nearest NRD office in Kota Marudu and Beluran to obtain the documents prevented many parents from discharging their responsibilities to register their children,” he said at a gathering with the people at Kampung Koiboton Paitan, today.
Kiandee, who is also the Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, said that as a long-term measure, the NRD needed to set up a permanent office at the Town
Secretariat for the Paitan Sub-district.
He also suggested that the NRD carried out mobile registration while waiting for the permanent office to be operational.
Kiandee reminded the parents to ensure that their children had personal identification which was important for their children’s schooling and future. – BERNAMA
