SANDAKAN, A man was killed and three others were injured in a collision involving a Proton Iswara and a Proton Saga cars at Kilometre 54 Jalan Sandakan-Lahad Datu near Kampung Segaliud yesterday.
Sandakan district police chief ACP Zabidi Mohd Zain said an Indonesian, Dakis Sapi, 41, who was at the wheel of the Proton Iswara, was killed in the crash which occurred about 11.20 pm.
The body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital here for post-mortem.
The injured were the driver of the Proton Saga car, Mohd Junaidir Omong, 22, and his two passengers, Jacqulin Rosalyang, 26, and Mantasi Diman, 31, he added.
Dakis was heading towards Sandakan when his vehicle was said to have veered into the right lane to avoid a stalled lorry and collided with the car driven by Mohd Junaidir, who was coming from the opposite direction.
Zabidi said Mantasi and Mohd Junaidir were sent to Kinabatangan Hospital for treatment, while Jacqulin to the Lahad Datu Hospital.
Meanwhile, Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station head Rosemedian Abdul Majid said six firemen in an engine rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 11.30 pm.
They arrived at the scene, about 27 kilometres away, 30 minutes later, he added.- BERNAMA
