KOTA KINABALU: A local man received five years jail from the Magistrate Court, for possessing a modified knife.
Mohd Faizal Fitri Selamat, 22, who was brought before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, was found guilty of the crime committed in Sinsuran, at 2.00am in 2 January, this year.
He was punished under Section 6(1)(a) of the Explosive and Corrosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 which carries the punishment of up to 10 years jail and caning.
According to the fact of case, Faizal with one of his friend were arrested after being found acting suspiciously by the police during patrol at the time. Inspection discovered that the accused carrying a modified knife.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for a minimum sentence.
At the same court, a food operator pleaded not guilty to owning a karambit knife and taking drugs.
Mohammad Adzren Amarun, 23, was charged with possessing the weapon in 2 January, this year, at 2.00am at Sinsuran.
For the second charge, he was accused of having drugs in his body.
For the crime, he was charged under Section 159(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the punishment of up to two years jail or RM5,000 fine, or both.
He was granted RM3,000 bail by two local sureties for the first charge, and the case will be mentioned on 16 February.
For the second charge, the court permit the accused to be bailed with RM1,500 with two local sureties.
