KOTA KINABALU: A convict was sentenced to 14 years jail  by the Sessions Court, here today, for causing the death of his wife.

Ridhwan Hawil, 32, committed the crime at an unnumbered house in Pulau Gaya, around 1.30am, in 11 January last year.

For the offense he was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code which carries the punishment of up to 30 years jail and a fine.

In mitigation, RIdhwan pleaded for a minimum sentence and for it to be carried out simultaneously with his current punishment.

However, the Vice Prosecutor, Akmalzatul Mohamed Nawi, applied for the court to give a heavier punishment to RIdhwan due to the seriousness of his crime.

He said the victim was the spouse of the guilty, and the cause of the crime was due to the refusal of the 55 years old victim to fulfill the guilty’s sexual desire.

He added that RIdhwan had also set their house on fire despite knowing full well that his injured wife and child were still inside.

Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohammed ordered for the guilty’s punishments under Section 326 and Section 304 of the Penal Code to be carried out consecutively. –SayangSabah
