KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court fined local man with RM44,000, today, for employing immigrants without valid work permits.
Alen Seah Thieng, confessed to have employed four female Fiipinos aged between 22 to 30 years old who have no working permits, in 17 November last year, around 9.00pm at an entertainment premise at Jalan Ujong Pasir, Labuan.
Alen was punished under Section 55B(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 34 of the Penal Code which carry the punishment of RM10,000 to RM30,000 fine or twelve months jail, or both, for each immigrant.
Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad set the fine to RM11,000 or six months jail in default for each immigrant found at the premise.
In mitigation, the accused represented by his lawyer, J. Martin Madegran, applied for a lighter sentence.
However, Vice Prosecutor Akmalzatul Mohamed Nawi insisted for the accused to be punished accordingly. -SayangSabah
