BALIK PULAU: A security guard who last year claimed trial to raping and murdering a Form Five student appeared in the Sessions Court here today to face another rape charge involving a clerk.
Tarmizi Yaakob, 21, pleaded not guilty to raping the woman aged 21, in Teluk Kumbar near here, between 4.30 am and 5.30 am on Oct 8 last year.
The charge under Section 376(2)(b) of the Penal Code provides for jail up to 30 years and caning on conviction.
On Nov 6 last year, the accused was charged with killing the student in Teluk Kumbar here, under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death sentence.
Yesterday, he was charged with raping the same student.
At the proceeding today, Tarmizi was seen reacting differently by speaking up when asked a question by Sessions Court judge Sitarun Nisa Abdul Aziz as opposed to yesterday when he only hung his head and kept quiet.
To the judge’s question about having a lawyer to defend him, he said he had not engaged one.
He told the judge that he was on his own as his parents had passed away. “I only have a sister,” he replied.
The court fixed March 22 for mention. Deputy public prosecutor J.G. Kaameini who appeared for the prosecution had earlier objected to bail.- BERNAMA
