KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with voluntarily causing hurt to his mother in Setapak Jaya on Feb 8.
However, Muhammad Faaris Syahiddin Ahmad, 22, was ordered by Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali to undergo psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta,Perak, for a month from today.
The accused allegedly injured his mother Khariah Hashim, 50, a teacher, using a knife at their home in No 31A Jalan Rejang 2, Desa Rejang, Setapak Jaya here, at 8.30 pm on Feb 8.
He made the decision after allowing an application by deputy public prosecutor Nurakmal Farhan Aziz that the accused be referred to the hospital because he was suspected to be of unsound mind.
Earlier, Muhammad Faaris Syahiddin wearing a t-shirt and a black skullcap seemed startled and confused after the charge was read before Judge Balqis Aini.
He turned to the left and right in the dock and just nodded, but no plea was recorded.
The court set March 16 for mention. Also present in court were family members of the accused including his father, who was seen wiping tears throughout the proceeding. – BERNAMA
