KUALA LUMPUR:  The success of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations this year showed that Malaysians indeed, have a high sense of patriotism, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He said this was evident when so many visitors were willing to come from afar to witness the uniqueness of the celebrations held.

“The great success is the result of efforts by all parties which was proven by the influx of tens of thousands of people who attended the parade at Dataran Merdeka,” he said.

He was speaking during a dinner in appreciation of the 2015 National Day and Malaysia Day at IPPTAR’s Cendekiawan Hall in Angkasapuri here, tonight.

He said the chosen theme #sehatisejiwa (Of One Heart, One Soul) reflected the government’s wish to see all Malaysians united, regardless of their background.

He said the sense of belonging, mutual understanding and solidarity were the cores of unity and harmony in the country.

He said the warm reception towards the various programmes carried out in Sabah and Sarawak also proved the enthusiasm of Malaysians, as well as participants who were gifted, knowledgeable and expert in managing big events such as these.

Salleh also hoped that the #sehatisejiwa spirit nurtured, was being kept fresh and alive forever.

The night of appreciation was held as a tribute to the volunteers and staff who had worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations this year.

At the event, Salleh also presented prizes to the winners of the National Beautification Month 2015 which, among others, witnessed Kampung Sambir, Samarahan in Sarawak winning the Traditional Village category, taking home RM10,000.

Besides that, Taman Agropolitan, Tanjung Batu Nenasi, Pekan, in Pahang, also took home RM10,000 for the housing estate category, while the same reward was also received by SK 3 Kampung, Limbang, Sarawak, which won the gateway category.-BERNAMA
