SANDAKAN: Muslims in the district are asked to make mosques and surau as the centre of community-based activities and not only a place for prayer.
Sekong Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Samsudin Yahya, said it is high time for the Muslim community to benefit from the institution to expand their knowledge beyond the religious aspect.
While mosques and surau are synonymous as a place for prayer and other religious activities, he said their roles must be diversified including as a centre for unity.
“Surau can be used for youth activities that are related to the community, where it will cultivate stronger ties between the group and surau institution,” he said after the donation presentation for orphans and senior citizens in Sekong.
Samsudin who is also Batu Sapi UMNO Chief, also wants the surau administration and cleanliness aspect are top-notch.
“The beauty fn cleanliness of surau need to be given attention, as well as for the Muslims to respect other communities from various race and religions in the state,” he said.
In another programme, Samsudin also officiated the donation presentation for the villagers of Kg. Istimewa, Bongaya, Cenderamata Taman Poh Ling, Lupak Meluas Laut, and Lupak Meluas Darat in Batu Sapi constituency. -SayangSabah
