PAPAR: Community leaders have an important role in explaining to the public the concept and benefits of Goods and Services tax (GST) which will be implemented on 1 April.

This is following the lack of information among the public, especially to the small business owners in rural areas which has not grasped the purpose of GST in the government efforts to create more progress and development for the country.

Kg. Kuala JKKK Chairman, Saibun Mudin, said most of the traders are still confused with GST system, and there are also who thinks it will cause prices of goods need to be increased.

“What worries me is that there are traders who inform their consumers who are mostly villagers that GST will burden the people; and this will create confusion.

“I personally have given explanations about GST to the villagers in my community and they seem to understand it, but when they met with traders to buy their necessities, they were confused,” he said when met at GST Awareness With Community Leaders Programme at Rumah Rehat Papar, which was attented by 50 village leaders and JKKK chairmen, here today. – SayangSabah
