BELURAN: Residents of Kampung Sungai Napas, near here, want the Beluran District Council (MDB) to maintain the landfill area near the village properly.
This was because they had found that the landfill, located about one kilometre from the village, was not well maintained and feared that the area could become an Aedes breeding ground.
A villager Hadrah Sarman, told Bernama yesterday that two cases of dengue fever were reported in the village and this had raised the concern of the villagers.
What was more worrying, he said, was that the landfill was located about one kilometre from the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Beluran 2.
Hadrah, who is also the public relations officer for the Beluran Parliamentary Office, said he had brought up the issue at the MDB District Action meeting recently and the only action taken was the digging of small drains around the landfill.
“The action is still insufficient to ensure that the landfill is well maintained to avoid the spread of dengue fever,” he said.- BERNAMA
