BUKIT MERTAJAM: An earth-laden lorry rammed into a restaurant when its brakes failed at a traffic light T-junction in Permatang Nibong here today.
In the 1pm incident, the lorry, which was driven by a 40-year-old man, was heading for Permatang Pauh town from Bandar Perda when it swerved to the left of the road and bulldozed into the outlet.
A police spokesman said there were no workers or customers during the incident at the restaurant because it only started its operations at 5 pm and closed early in the morning daily. The outlet served hot food and tomyam.
“The driver claimed his brakes failed when he wanted to stop at the traffic light. He swerved left to avoid the cars in front and hit the restaurant. He was unhurt.
“Part of the roof in front of the shop and tables and chairs were damaged due to the incident,” he added.- BERNAMA
