KOTA KINABALU: A local man was tried at the Sessions Court today for the charge of causing the death of his wife.
Ridwan Hawil, 31, pleaded not guilty to the charge read against him by Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad.
He allegedly committed the crime at an unnumbered house at Kg. Pando Pulau Gaya, in 1 January, around 1.30am.
The court fixed 28 December for the case mention.
Meanwhile, in another different case, a foreigner was sentenced to 10 months jail by the Magistrate Court for possessing Methamphetamine drugs.
Jul Ladja, pleaded guilty in front of Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie for the offense.
According to the facts of case he was held up by police during the Ops Tapis operation under the suspicion of his involvement in drug activities in 9 August, at 3.00pm, near the hill of Shantung Luyang.
The accused however tried to run away which lead to a chase. He was successfully apprehended and further inspection found him holding a transparent packet believed to contain 5.08gramme of Methamphetamine drug.
Lab analysis done on the packet substance has verified that it is containing 2.89gramme of the drug.
The accused is punishable under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952, which carries the punishment of a fine up to RM100,000 or five years jail, or both.
The court also ordered for the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after the completion of his sentence. Insp. Lim Swee Beng prosecuted. -SayangSabah
