LANGKAWI: Holding more photography contests will be one of the approaches taken by the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) to increase
its collections of images to promote the various tourist attractions in the island.
LADA chief executive officer, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli said photography contests such as the Naturally Langkawi Photo Quest that was recently organised could churn new images that could be used to introduce interesting sites and products here.
“When we say Photo Quest, the quest is for more beautiful photographs of Langkawi. Some of them (contestants) are professionals and you can see that their works are wonderful and will contribute to our gallery collections,” he told Bernama here.
He said besides using the photographs for exhibitions and other presentation events, LADA also planned to come up with a coffee table book featuring the latest works of the photograhers.
“To keep new images to come in, I think we should organise contests of similar nature more frequently,” he said.
LADA received more than 120 entries for the Naturally Langkawi Photo Quest which ended recently in which 30 of them were shortlisted for the final
Local shutterbugs shone in the contest, which offered a total prize money of nearly RM10,000, with Rosafandi Ramli taking the top honour for the Butterflies and Macros category, while Shazuddin Shaari and Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Yusof took the title for the landscape and birds categories respectively.
All the entries which made the final assessment stage will be exhibited this week at the Langkawi International Airport.
The public are invited to make their pick for the best among the pictures and the entry that won the highest vote will win the Public Choice award which comes with a RM1,000 cash prize.- BERNAMA
