KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court today set 12 and 13 May for the trial of a labourer who pleaded not guilty for the charge of raping a 13-year-old female.
The accused, Awang Salam Ismail, 22, allegedly committed the crime at an abandoned house behind the victim’s home at Kg. Baitam, Beaufort, around 12.00am, in 22 March last year.
He can be punished under Section 37691) of the Penal Code with up to 20 years jail maximum, and caning, if found guilty.
Judge Azreena Aziz granted the accused RM10,000 bail (RM5,000 deposit) by two local bailors.
The court also ordered the accused report himself to the nearest police station once a month and not to harass the victim and prosecution’s witnesses.
