TAWAU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-Operative, and Consumerism has seized various types of necessities including sugar and cooking oil in a raid at a business premise at Batu 8, Jalan Luasong-Kalabakan, believed to be smuggled out of the country.

Tawau KPDNKK Branch Chief, Peter J. Berinus Agang, said they have seized 3,401 kg of sugar and 1,852 kg of cooking oil worth of RM14,300 in a raid which was launched last Saturday at 1.30pm.

“The goods are believed to be smuggled out and in the process of being distributed to unidentified location. During the inspection, the premise owner failed to show any related documents for the controlled goods which have exceeded the permitted quota stipulated in his license,” he said in his statement, here today.

The case is investigated under Controlled Goods Act 1961 which carries out a punishment of fine up to RM1 million and three years of jail if found guilty. – SayangSabah
