KOTA KINABALU – City dwellers should reduce electricity usage in the city so they get Green Building Index (GBI) recognition.

City Hall (DBKK) director general Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said they have changed all the street light from using electricity to light-emitting diode (LED) which could lessen electricity consumption.

“Last year, we installed 360 of LED lamps along the path of track cycling and pedestrian in  Likas bay for energy conservation,” he said, adding that there were 76 of LED streetlight  installed at Beach Road (Jalan Pantai) KK and 30 in rural areas.

He said bus and taxi stand in the city were set up with Solar Energy PV Off-Grid System.

“ We also want to encourage new property developments to implement green technology and eco green building in order to reduce energy use as well as help to end global warming,” he said.- By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah
