KOTA KINABALU: Due to a successful turn last year the KK Duathlon is back for the second season to be held March 8 this year.
The preparation for the strenuous race kick-off yesterday with a sponsorship deal between organiser Performance Sportz and Specialized Kota Kinabalu.
“We are happy to announce that Specialised has agreed to be the title sponsor for our event. We all know Specialized is a well-known bicycle brand used by professionals in races all over the world,” said race director Douglas Yu.
He said they also hoped the yearly duathlon can inspire more locals to take part in multi-sports events, adding that endurance sports such as running, cycling community are on the rise in Sabah and will continue to do so in the years to come.
As title sponsor, Specialized will bring in Singaporean top triathlete Choo Ling-Er to conduct a workshop on February 15 for all registered participants.
Duathlon is a multi-sports event comprising of running and biking. This year participants will need to complete the course which is 4km run, 40km bike and another eight km run all under a four-hour limit.
Participants can sign up as an individual or group relay consisting of maximum two people.
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has confirmed as the official venue for the event which will be flagged off at the UMS Padang Kawad.
Those who complete the course will be entitled to a lucky draw and win Specialized products including one Specialized Time Trial Bike worth RM18,000.
