PAPAR – Kinarut hopes to evolve from a small town into a sub-district.
Presently a housing centre preferred by developers, Kinarut town is 20km from Kota Kinabalu City and is showing its potential to be another a sub-district in this area.
The idea has been mooted several years ago by leaders in Papar including Deputy Work Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin who is also the Member of Parliament and Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar.
“The fast pace development and the increasing number of population in Kinarut makes it a potentially strategic growth area,” Ghulam said to reporters at the Chinese New Year Celebration organised by the WSG Development Sdn Bhd at the Palm Condominium and The Palm Square Kinarut showroom, here today.
Ghulam who is also Kawang state assemblyman added that the vast development taking place in the area especially housing projects, can assure that becoming a sub-district isnrealistic.
“We are making the efforts to make Kinarut a sub-district to cater to the physical development and to facilitate the surrounding community.”
“I believe that when the town is fully developed, it will become a sub-district,” he said.
He stated that having such status, properly structured development and physical developments could be implemented.
Ghulam also noted that the progress of Pan Borneo Highway development project will impact positively on Kinarut. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
