KOTA KINABALU- The elderly and single mothers residing in Kinabatangan area are not forgotten by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Datuk Jainab Datuk Ahmad Ayid, Minister of Community Development and Consumer  Affairs said the department which is under her Ministry’s purview has never stopped giving welfare assistance to qualified recipients.

She said she had never received any complaints from the Single Mother Association and stressed that the department was always ready to attend to any complaints.

Speaking in answer to an issue brought up by the Kinabatangan UMNO Division Chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin recently she stressed that the welfare recipients should report every three months at the Welfare Office as the welfare assistance was only valid for 12 months.

“After the year is up they have to renew their applications so that the service would be validated.”

Based on the record of Kinabatangan district, 106 recipients were no longer valid and had expired as and 73 of them have not applied for made continuation while the other 18 are no longer  eligible. Unfortunately, 15 recipients have passed away,” she added. – By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah.
