Kinabatangan district council should obtain land grants

SANDAKAN: -Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Bung Moktar Radin wants the Kinabatangan District Council (MDK) to get land grantsfor 500 hectares of land gazetted under it.

He said this would allow the land, most of which are in the Pekan Kinabatangan and Tongod areas, to be developed to increase the council’s
revenue.

According to him, the land was suitable for housing development or to be developed commercially for land and tourism.

“The value of the land is high and it should be developed to increase the MDK’s assets and income,” he told reporters after witnessing the oath-taking ceremony of 18 MDK Councillors today.

Bung Moktar, who is also Felcra chairman, said MDK should not confine themselves to only providing service but should also work to increase income.

Bung Moktar said if the gazetted area had land grants, the MDK could attract investors to Kinabatangan or Tongod, thus contributing to development, especially for the benefit of the people.

“With close planning and management, I am sure the Kinabatangan district can be developed especially through tourism and agriculture,” he said.

He said the newly-appointed MDK Councillors should work to help obtain land grants for the areas under the council’s jurisdiction.

He said for the first time, the representatives from the MCA and non-governmental organisations were appointed to the council for the 2015-2016
session.

He said this meant the Councillors were diverse and could contribute to the planning of development in the area. – BERNAMA
