KENINGAU: The state government is planning to upgrade Keningau Township to a city status in the future.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said the government is interested in changing the status of Keningau District Council to Municipal Council following its heightened development.
He said it is evident with the existing development and construction of facilities, as well as the increase in population.
“More traders are doing business at the district township and contribute to the government’s plan to upgrade its status to city,” he said after his visit at Keningau town for Chinese New Year 2016.
Pairin who is also the state Minister of Infrastructure Development, said the plan is further supported by the town’s location at the centre of the Interior region. –SayangSabah
