KUCHING: The Sarawak Department of Civil Defence (JPAM) attended to 524 cases involving the catching of snakes in the first six months of this year.
These cases comprised 18 per cent of the 2,922 cases it had to attend to during the period, said Sarawak JPAM public relations officer Siti Huzaimah
She said the most number of cases, 676 or 23.1 per cent of the total, had to do with providing transport for the sick to seek treatment.
Other cases were associated with, among other things, operations during floods, felling trees and helping out during road accidents, she added.
“In all the cases during the period, the Sarawak JPAM assisted 1,506 people,” she told Bernama.
Siti Huzaimah said Sarawak JPAM had more than 34,000 personnel and 14 district operations control centres throughout the state.
The Kuching centre received the most number of emergency telephone calls, at 1,368 or 46.8 per cent of the total during the period, while the Sarikei centre had the least number of calls, at four, she said. – BERNAMA
