JBPM will receive two helicopters next year

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will be receiving two Agusta Westland AW189 helicopters next year.

JBPM director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Noor Ibrahim said the helicopters would be deployed by the department in Sabah.

“Presently, for our operations in Sabah, we are using two helicopters stationed in Sarawak.  So far, the department has seven helicopters, two in Sarawak and five in the peninsula,” he told reporters after opening the PLC Group’s Emergency Control Centre here today.

The medium-lift twin engine helicopters can accommodate 14 people including the pilot and his assistant and can fly for six hours on one tank of fuel and has a top speed of 310 kmph.
