JITRA:  A woman was sentenced to 12 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for hiding the birth of a baby by cutting the stillborn into eight parts, early this month.

Magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim handed down the sentence after Farihah Abd Aziz, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Farihah admitted to have committed the offence by cutting the stillborn baby into eight parts before disposing of the parts in a septic tank at a house in Kampung Manggol, Mukim Malau Jitra, Kubang Pasu between 1 pm to 3 pm on July 6.

She was charged under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine or imprisonment not exceeding two year, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Naizatul Zima Tajudin appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by Ummi Kalthum Zakaria, from the National Legal Aid Foundation. – BERNAMA
