TAWAU: The influx of Islamic theologians (ulama) and scholars from neighbouring countries, including Indonesia, to Sabah has helped enhance the Islamic faith in the state.
Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said their arrival resulted in positive effects on Sabah, such as the estabilishment of religious education institution which would produce more young people with religious education in the future.
“We always welcome visits by Islamic theologians and scholars as they (visits) not only strengthen the relationship among Muslims but also bring back the struggle to spread Islam, like in the past,” he said.
Tawfiq said this in his speech during dinner, in conjunction with the ‘Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Buya Hamka Maninjau Sumatra’ committee members visit to Tawau last night.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Yayasan Pondok Pesantren Buya Hamka Padang Sumatra, Bachtiar Bakar said their visits were aimed at strengthening the relationship among Muslims.
Also present at the dinner ceremony were Sabah Resources Development and Information Technology Assistant Minister Datuk Hamisa Samat and Balung assemblyman Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali.- BERNAMA
