KOTA KINABALU – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has become an education destination for international students.
According to the university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, there has been an increased of 101 foreign students between 2013 to 2014.
“The statistic indicates that last year we have a total of 617 international students that came from 28 countries around the world; an increase of 101 students from its previous year,” he said in his message delivered to thousands of UMS lecturers, students and personnel here, today.
In his message, Harun stressed that his focused for 2015 was to elevate UMS to International level.
“UMS need to be visible for people to know especially in the international level. We need to set a target and work together to make this happen,” he said.
He stated that the university must come out from its comfort zone and strive to the mainstream of global education.
In line with that; Harun disclosed that the university had planned several strategic framework to promote and advance the university to the world.
“One of the initiative is to develop the first Satellite Office in Heilongjiang Academy of Science China. This office will act as a centre to gather all of our alumni from China and to get more students to enroll in UMS,” he said.
The Satellite Office is expected to start its operation in June this year, he added. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
