KOTA KINABALU: An Indonesian woman was sentenced to two weeks jail and fined RM4,000 in default three months jail by the Magistrate Court, today, for prostitution.
Evi Suyanti, 27, admitted guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, for the offense committed at a hotel room at Bundusan Square, Penampang, around 10.40pm, in 14 January ago.
She received punishment under Section 372B of the Penal Code which stipulates one year jail maximum, a fine, or both.
According to the case fact, the authority launched a raid operation at the area and arrested the accused who was suspected of offering sex service.
Investigation discovered that the accused committed prostitution under her own accord.
In mitigation, her lawyer Luke Ressa Balang applied for only a fine to be given to his client under the consideration that she showed remorse for her action.
He also applied for Evi not to be referred to the Immigration Department due to her visiting pass is still valid.
However, the court ordered for the accused to be sent to the Immigration Department upon the completion of her sentence.
