KENINGAU: Police authority arrested nine locals and two foreigners under the suspicion of using their personal vehicles for illegal taxi activities.
District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong, said the arrest was made during the Ops Kereta Sapu based on information from the public and patrol by the police.
“The operation was launched to create awareness among them that it is an offence (illegal taxi) since they do not have the appropriate permit or license to operate and take passengers,” he said in a media conference after the operation.
Douglas said the operation was carried out with thecollaboration of Sabah Contingent Headquarters (IPK) traffic personnel, led by Assistant Superintenden Parum AK Niot, three Keningau IPD traffic officers, and sixteen Keningau IPD and traffic personnel.
“All 11 vehicles have been seized under Section 60 APJ 1987 for not having a license for exhaust modification, road tax, and summoned for RM300. We also issued 36 summonses in the operation for various offences,” he said. – SayangSabah
