House to house fundraising no longer relevant: Tawfiq

TAWAU: Private companies or government-linked companies (GLC) are urged to help the organizations in the state in term of funding to enable them to organize activities and programmes for the communities.

Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, said any companies who wish to contribute part of their income can apply for tax exemption from the government.

“Girl Guides Association is one of the example of organization which organize various volunteering activities, and we want corporate companies and GLCs to help them in their funds,” he said in his speech for the district level World Association of Girl Guides Day at Padang Bandaran Tawau, here today.

He said, as an organization which has been founded 90 years ago, volunteering activities from house to house by its members for fundraising is no longer relevant.

In this regard, Tawfiq urged for organization leaders to be more innovative and proactive in raising funds for their activities.

Tawfiq also commended the Girl Guides organization as one of the best despite the existence of other organizations.

He also calls for organization leaders to launch roadshows in schools to encourage students participation especially in Girl Guides Association. – SayangSabah
