KOTA KINABALU – The plastic bag usage reduction campaign saw participation from 311 hotels here today.
Grandis Hotels and Resorts, a hotel at the Suria Sabah complex was one of the latest participants.
Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir urged other hotels to participate in the campaign to instill awareness to society.
“The main objective of this campaign is to instill awareness to citizen, so the use of plastic bag will be reduced, “ he said adding that this encouraged green practices such as using biodegradable plastic bags for shopping.
The City Hall is holding this campaign in collaborations with Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) and Environmental Action Committee (EAC).
The Grandis Hotels and Resorts participation in the campaign was in line with the implementation of 5S Agenda on Cleanliness, Beautification, Safety, Orderliness and Harmony in their workplace.
“We are currently practicing a workplace organization method which is better known as 5S where we stress on clean surroundings in the workplace. In addition to that, we have a recycling program that we have operated since the hotel opened. Organising methods and programmes such as these have shown great results and has improved the overall cleanliness of the premise,” said General Manager of the hotel, Michael Tan.
Tan said it is their core vitals to engage in conservation, preservation and enhancement of a clean environment.- By Saila Saidie/Sayangsabah.
