KOTA KINABALU: Fifteen small and medium industries including enterprises and entrepreneurs from Sabah were honoured at the recent 13th Asia Pacific International Honesty Enterprise-Keris Award 2014.

The award presentation ceremony held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel were divided into two sessions where the  first session in the afternoon which include an entrepreneur networking gathering  and  recipients receiving their winning certificates from guest of honour Dr Doan Thanh No, the advisor to Vietnam’s Prime Minister.

The second session started in the evening saw the winners received their respective gongs from Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin where 15 recipients from Sabah involved in restaurant, skills training centre, travel agents, developers, newspaper publisher, healthcare and furniture were among the 59 winners from across the country.

The honours were awarded in three categories namely Honesty Entrepreneur Award with six recipients; four of the winners were from Sabah namely Remajaya Sdn Bhd represented  by its group managing director Datuk Chua Soon Ping; Sabah Publishing House Sdn Bhd represented by its managing director Datuk Clement Yeh; Sino Land Sdn Bhd represented by managing director Teo Chee Ming and Wong Nyet Swee who is the proprietor of Mrs Nancy Lim School of Cooking & Baking.

There were nine recipients for the Honesty Product Award and the winners from Sabah were Kinsabayu Sdn Bhd for its La Vintage Restaurant received by chief operating officer Gerald Goh and Sino Land Sdn Bhd accepted by managing director Teo Chee Ming.

For the Honesty Enterprise Award there were 44 winners with nine winners from Sabah namely Airworld Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd by chairman Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw; Borneo Tropical Holidays Sdn Bhd by managing director Daniel Chong; Grand Merdeka Development Sdn Bhd by director Chew Sang Hai.

Mrs Nancy Lim School of Cooking & Baking by Wong Nyet Swee; Innovatory Furniture Sdn Bhd by Chew Ah Kam; Juiceapac Sdn Bhd by Liew Chiew Kiong; Remajaya Sdn Bhd; Skyland Adventure (Borneo) Sdn Bhd by Lam Ming Piaw and SM Health Care Sdn Bhd by general manager Helga Smith.

Organising chairman Prof Dr Albert Tan, said: “Honesty relates is the cornerstone of all success, without which confidence and ability to perform shall cease to exist.”

Honesty relates to both words and actions where great companies and entrepreneurs delivering what they have promised to the customers, not only in the good times, but also in the challenging times, he stated.

“Profit is undoubtedly the ultimate goal of all businesses, but it pays to be honest, unless you are in business to make one off profit, and then plan to take the money and run. Honesty is always the best policy, and will continue to stay so, for all time to come,” pointed out Dr Albert.

“In the past 13 years, we have awarded more than 500 outstanding companies, that have put honesty, ethic, and integrity about all else in their business and corporation practices,” said Dr Albert adding that this year, there are additional 60 companies in the lists of recipients from more than 800 nomination from 13 countries, he said.

The names of the winners will be published in the ‘The Asia Pacific International Honesty Enterprise-Keris Award-Book of Records’ as a tribute to them and it will be distributed throughout Asia by June 2015, he disclosed.- Sayangsabah.
