LABUAN: A total of 27 villages, 30 learning centres, more than 80 government agencies and several corporate organisations have started rolling their plans and strategies to become winners in the seven categories of flag hoisting competition in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day 2016.
The hoist the flag campaign, witnessed by more than 500 Labuan folks, was held simultaneously with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya today.
Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli said the hoist the flag campaign aimed at nurturing love and respect for the provinces as well as the symbol of unity.
Federal Territory Day 2016, carrying the theme ‘Wilayah Ceria, Rakyat Sejahtera’, is the 12th celebration held since 2004 to commemorate the unification of three provinces of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan as a more vibrant city.
A total of 1,500 flags were distributed to motorists today, while a total of 300 people took part in the 3 km bicycle ride and 1,000 steps of walking.
A number of programmes listed during the month-long event beginning Feb 1 such as Malam Wilayah Persekutuan Berselawat, Kenduri 1 Wilayah, the official launching of Labuan Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) and the Federal Territory Day celebration officiated by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abd Razak on Feb 6.
The Federal Territories Ministry would give a 50 per cent discount to members of the public who settled their summonses to Labuan Corporation from Feb 3 to 5 in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day celebrations.
