KOTA KINABALU – The rubber industry in Sabah involves a very high production cost.
Datuk Dr. Salmiah Ahmad the Director General of The Malaysia Rubber Board (MRB), said the local rubber industry here is totally dependent on the infrastructure and export capability of West Malaysia.
According to her, this contributed to the high cost of production and is one of the challenges for the commodity to become a viable industry in Sabah.
“Sabah needs a transformation in terms of logistic, especially enhancing the capacity of Sabah Port in Kota Kinabalu to accommodate higher volumes of exports,” she said.
“Efforts to upgrade the quality of infrastructure are important since industry players need sustainable operation here,” she stated during a forum on Transforming The Rubber Industry here, today. – Sukri Sarin/ SayangSabah
