KOTA KINABALU – The first Hard Rock Cafe in East Malaysia will open its door on April 1 this year.
The one-stop dining and entertainment centre located at the Oceanus Waterfront Mall will offer diners a magnificent ambiance of the iconic memorabilia collection while offering guests a splendid Kota Kinabalu sea view.
Visitors and diners to the much-awaited legendary rock and roll inspired cafe can view over 114 sets of memorabilia including Gene Simmons of KISS Silver Chrome G.S. Cort Punisher guitar, The Slash’s top hat, Vivian Campbell of Whitesnake’s Blue Kramer Pacer guitar, Jesse Carmichael of Maroon 5 Fender Stratocaster guitar, John Lennon of The Beatles outfit from Time magazine cover, Rihanna’s Black and White “Boy” outfit among others.
The Hard Rock Memorabilia Designer, Giovanni Taliaferro said fans in Sabah will have an up close opportunity to view iconic collections.
“We have an amazing collections for the fans here in Sabah. It took us about 6 months to gather all the information and do some research on the market prospect.”
“The store is smaller (7,914 square-feet) but it doesn’t mean that the collection has to be the same. We bringing in classic to the current collections,” he said to reporters during the Hard Rock Cafe Kota Kinabalu media preview at the cafe, here today.
The Hard Rock Cafe Kota Kinabalu General Manager Floyd Mervyn Pereira said that the opening of the cafe will help to bring a positive impact to the tourism industry in Sabah.
“Kota Kinabalu is not as laid back as people think. I believe the Hard Rock Cafe KK will add to the city’s exciting entertainment scene,” he said.
According to Pereira, the soft launch on April will be open to public with entertainment including performances from Drizzle with D.N.A a band coming all the way from the Philippines.
Besides that the Rock Shop will also move from its current location to the Oceanus Waterfront Mall, just below the cafe.
The Rock Shop offers both rock and roll-inspired items as well as classic collectible Hard Rock merchandise.
Hard Rock Cafe Kota Kinabalu will be the fourth Hard Rock location in Malaysia. Other sites of Hard Rock Cafes are located in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Melaka. – By Fizah Yusof/SayangSabah
