State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor called on town planners to be thoughtful and discerning in making strategic town plans that will provide high-quality living for its residents.
He said, in keeping with the changing times, visionary town planning can anticipate and forestall future challenges and problems.
“Resolving current planning issues, which is a central part of our transformation program, is essential in our quest to improve the quality of our service delivery system,” said Hajiji who was referring to the implementation of Government Transformation Program (GTP) that essentially calls for a more efficient government delivery system.
“This includes overcoming efficiency issues involving slow plan approvals, land use, planning standard and other obstacles,” said Hajiji at the Sabah Town and Regional Planning Department’s 33rd Anniversary dinner in Kota Kinabalu’s Sutera Harbour Resort and Spa, recently.
He added that the utilization of new technology like digital mapping would be ideal in dealing with land planning and development issues.
Besides that, the Minister also urged all relevant authorities to support the government’s efforts to incorporate green technology into the country’s construction industry and economy in general.
“It is anticipated that green technology will generate new business opportunities and encourage strong property investments,” said Hajiji. “Besides creating a balance between development and environment, it will solidify the industry by making it more sustainable and therefore impact the state’s economic development positively.”
