SONGKHLA:  Malaysian businessman Lee Ah Han was shot dead over a debt of 35 million Thai Baht (RM4.1 million) owed to another Malaysian businessman.

Thai Police said information found that land dealer Lee, who is also known as Ali Baba, had paid the 35 million Baht debt using ‘bounced’ cheques.

Thunglung mukim police chief, Col Vichapan Chantraporn said the problem had prolonged for six months.

He declined to reveal the identity of the Malaysian businessman.

Lee, 54, was shot dead in Hatyai yesterday while travelling to Hatyai International Airport with his wife Mayuree Thipmani, 42, who was seriously hurt.

Thai Police are searching for clues by examining CCTV recording at the crime scene to identify the suspects’ car.

Lee is well known in Danok and Sadao near the Malaysia-Thailand border as a middleman in the buying and selling of land involving businessmen from Malaysia.-BERNAMA
