KOTA KINABALU: The annual ceremony to commemorate war victims was held, here today, at Petagas War Memorial.
Sabah Minister of Special Task, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, said the ceremony has been held for the 67th time to honor the heroes of Gerila Kinabalu who fought the Japanese armies.
“Today we are not only remembering the sacrifice of our heroes, but also to be grateful and appreciate the peace that we enjoy today thanks to their contribution,” he said.
Teo who was representing the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman, received the honorary salute from 28 drill contingents including ATM, PDRM, TLDM, TUDM, Association of Malaysian Former Police, Association of ATM Veteran, and DBKK Enforcement Department.
Teo with other invited guests gave their moment of silence for 20 seconds after the Last Post to remember those who have fallen for the country.
Meanwhile, visitors attending the ceremony lauded DBKK’s effort to commemorate victims and heroes of war as an honourable gesture.
Suhaimi Ariffin, 56, said such event will make the young generation more patriotic.
“Not all from the young generation today know about the history of Sabah. Through this kind of ceremony, the young generation will appreciate the sacrifices made by the unsung heroes of Sabah against outside enemies, and they will not doubt what they have done,” he said. -SayangSabah
