KOTA KINABALU: A premise operating illegal gambling activities under the guise of family entertainment business, was uncovered by police authority in a raid operation at Karamunsing Complex, here recently.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, said the raid is a follow-up action on the public complaints regarding on the premise illegal gambling activities.“In a raid at 8.10pm on 27 February, the police have arrested two employees in the premise and another nine costumers aged from 25 to 50 years old,” he said in a press statement in Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters, Kepayan, today.
According to him, the police have seized 14 modified computer gambling machine and RM1,170 cash in the raid.
He said, all the arrested individuals were then brought to the police station for further investigation under Section 4B(a) Common Gaming House Act 1953 which brings the punishment of fine not less than RM20,000 or prison for up to five years.
He also advises all owners of entertainment centres not to abuse their business license by doing illegal activities.
“Stern actions will be taken to any owners who operate illegal gambling activities, including the cancellation of their business license by the local authority,” he added. – SayangSabah
